The Keys to Nonviolent Communication

  • When you are in a conflict with your boyfriend, girlfriend, parent, sibling or anyone close to you, have you worked out how to express your own pain without blaming the other person?

Miki Kashtan has helped hundreds of people to do it. Maybe thousands. How is it possible? She will explain -- but not in a lecture; she does it by hearing your own story, and talking it over with you on the phone. Here's a hint:  look at yourself and everyone else in terms of what could attend to our human needs, and not in terms of who is right and who is wrong. This way, we can make it work for everyone.

Check out her blog, and this post differing with advice columnist Dear Prudence on navigating holidays with the family and on father-daughter strain over a wedding. A new era could open up for you in your relationships!

And there are wider implications. Miki likes to quote Gandhi, that "There is enough in the world for everyone's need."

Miki is a co-founder of Bay Area Nonviolent Communication ( She is inspired by the role of visionary leadership in shaping a livable future, and works toward that vision by sharing the principles and practices of Nonviolent Communication through mediation, teaching, writing, and as a consultant for organizations that wish to foster a culture of collaboration.
